Parameterized Modeling
Parameterized modeling in SimaPro lets you model
all kinds of relationships in your inventory data. This offers many new
possibilities for simplifying your work.
Advantages of parameters
Examples of what you can do with parameters:
-
Set switches for sensitivity analysis. Use
parameters to switch between different system boundary and allocation
choices. Sensitivity analysis could not be easier.
-
Define non-linear relationships.
-
Define and evaluate uncertainties in parameters.
-
Evaluate alternative product scenarios.
Define a product system with parameters, then create two different sets
of parameters and compare the environmental impact of these differences.
No need to create and maintain alternative versions of the product system;
instead define your LCI only once.
Parameterized modeling is not available in the SimaPro
Compact, Faculty and Classroom versions.
How you use parameters
Parameters can be defined on 3 levels (process, project and database).
You start by defining a parameter name and giving it a default value. You
can add uncertainty data as well.

Defining parameters and
expression
Using the parameters, you can define expressions For example, Weight=Volume
x Density. You can use a wide range of mathematical expression to create for
example non linear relationships.
With expressions you can also create switches, for example to easily
switch between electricity models in different countries.
Once you have defined the parameters, you can use them in processes and
product stages. Simply type the name of the parameter you want, or use the
right mouse menu. SimaPro will show the corresponding default values of
the parameter or the expressions.

Use of parameters in
modeling
The real power of parameterized modeling is in the analytical features.
You can simply create scenarios in SimaPro, and set a value for each
parameter used. You can even add uncertainty values for each parameter.

Creating a scenario
analysis with parameter variation
The results are presented in graphical or tabular formats and can be
further analyzed. Of course you can easily copy and paste all results.
