Getting data
from other systems
The COM interface can also be used to feed data from other systems into
SimaPro. The most typical use will be to obtain Bill of Materials (BOM)
in SimaPro from an ERP or PLM system. This data is used as a starting block
for modelling a product's life cycle.
This is especially useful for companies that have a large and quickly
changing range of products, and for example need to create Environmental
Product Declarations (EPDs) for each of their products.
As alternative for the COM interface you can also use the simpler
Excel/database link method.

Using the COM interface
on your website
With the COM interface and a SimaPro multi user version1,
you can build tools to communicate your results throughout your intranet
and extranet sites.
The other way round, you can use the COM interface
to create questionnaires that feed the results directly into your SimaPro
database.

- A SimaPro Developer license, and good knowledge of how the modelling
in SimaPro works.
- A COM feature on the software you are linking with. You should also
have sufficient rights to access (or edit) the data, and understand
how the data structure in this tool.
- Knowledge of common programming languages such as C++ or Visual
Basic to write the interface.
