Our Triangle Tool shows graphically (as weighting triangle)
which combination of weighting factors will make option A preferable to option B, and vice versa. The Triangle Tool does not solve your weighting problem. Stakeholders can discuss the results from the Triangle Tool, to find out whether it is logical that a certain set of weights gives a certain preference. As a result, the stakeholders do not have to determine exact weights. They only need to determine in which range the weights would be and agree on a conclusion. The Triangle Tool eases the process of decision making by offering valuable insights. The Triangle Tool was developed within the Eco-indicator 99 project, but can be used for any weighting issue. The Triangle Tool is based on a concept developed by Patrick Hofstetter, Arthur Braunschweig, Thomas Mettier, Ruedi Müller-Wenk and Olav Tietje, as published in Journal of Industrial Ecology.
